The Academy is co-founded and co-directed by a practising consultant cardiologist and a practising consultant radiologist, with a faculty of senior cardiac CT and cardiac MRI radiographers. Consultants who report at Level 3 teach the reporting; radiographers who run cardiac lists teach the scanning. Every clinical session on the doctor course is taught by both specialties together.

Dr Sriraj Kannoly
Consultant Cardiologist, Course Co-DirectorDr Kannoly is a practising consultant cardiologist whose work centres on non-invasive cardiac imaging, structural heart disease and the use of cardiac CT before intervention. On the course he provides the clinical reading of every case: what the finding means for the patient, and what the cath lab or the structural team will do with it. He is the author of the Academy's guide to BSCI Level 2 accreditation.

Dr Syed Junaid
Consultant Radiologist, Course Co-DirectorDr Junaid is a practising consultant radiologist in cardiothoracic imaging, reporting both cardiac CT and cardiac MRI. He teaches technique, post-processing, artefact recognition and the systematic search pattern that underpins high-volume Level 2 reporting, with a particular interest in image quality and scanner-specific protocol optimisation. He is the author of the Academy's guide to SCCT Level 2 certification.
Senior radiographer faculty
The radiographer faculty teach on both the doctor course and the radiographer courses. A diagnostic study is made or lost at the scanner, and that is what they teach.

Sarah Maund
Senior Cardiac CT RadiographerSarah scans across the full range of cardiac CT, from calcium scoring and CCTA to complex structural and TAVI planning studies. She teaches protocol design, heart rate management and contrast technique on the Level 1 and 2 course and the radiographer programmes.

Nic George
Superintendent CT Radiographer, Cardiac ImagingNic's expertise is in scanner protocols, dose optimisation and the technical detail of high-throughput cardiac CT. He co-teaches the cardiac CT course for radiographers with Dr Junaid and Dr Kannoly, and leads the artefact recognition and salvage sessions, drawing on front-line scanning experience across several cardiac CT platforms.

Helena Salgueiro
Senior Cardiac MRI RadiographerHelena works across the full CMR sequence library, from cines and flow to tissue characterisation, mapping and stress perfusion. She co-leads the cardiac MRI course for radiographers, with a focus on real-time decisions at the scanner and the hand-over between radiographer and reporter.
Why the faculty is built this way
A cardiac CT or MRI study serves three people at once: the radiographer who sets up the protocol, the cardiologist who decides what to do clinically, and the radiologist who owns image quality and the structured report. Most courses teach from one of those positions and acknowledge the other two. We teach from all three.
When a complex case comes up on the workstation, a cardiologist and a radiologist read it together in front of the delegates and explain how each profession approaches the same image. When scan set-up is discussed, a senior radiographer leads, because they are the person who does it. The disagreements are part of the teaching.
This is also why the Academy is based in Wales rather than London. The cardiac imaging community here is small, and radiologists, cardiologists and radiographers work together across MDT boundaries more closely than in much of the UK. That way of working is what we set out to teach.
